ITINERARY

Known as the Whiskey Route, the Machame Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and popular trails. It circles the mountain through ever-changing landscapes — from lush rainforest to alpine desert and the stunning Shira Plateau — before summiting at Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. With its gradual ascent and strong acclimatization profile, Machame offers one of the best chances of reaching the summit. Though shorter than many routes, it is rich in beauty and adventure. Expect spectacular views, a high success rate, and an unforgettable climb to the roof of Africa. (For climbers seeking a more relaxed pace, we recommend adding one extra acclimatization day at Karanga Camp)

Day 1 | Machame Gate (1,828 m / 5,997 ft) – Machame Camp (3,020 m / 9,908 ft)

Early morning departure from Arusha or Moshi to Kilimanjaro National Park. After registration at Machame Gate, begin your trek through dense rainforest alive with birds and colobus monkeys. The trail can be muddy and steep in parts, but the scenery is breathtaking. Reach Machame Camp by late afternoon. Your porters set up tents, followed by a hot meal and briefing for the next day.
